ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Skill in use and operation of mowers, tractors, trucks, spray machines and other standard tools and equipment used in the care and maintenance of a golf course; and in training and supervising others.
Knowledge of the construction and maintenance of golf tees, fairways and greens; of the production and maintenance of various types of turf used on golf courses; of planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; of herbicide and pest control methods and materials; of drainage control methods; of watering and irrigation systems; of construction and maintenance of golf cart paths; of departmental policies and procedures; and of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to maintain tees, fairways, greens and appurtenances to an acceptable standard of golf course; to plan, organize and control the work of others; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely; to deal tactfully with others; to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor; and to understand chemical formulas and make complex mathematical calculations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages two subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 15 employees in the LaFortune Golf Course Maintenance or South Lakes Golf Course Maintenance. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 10 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in turf management, horticulture, agriculture, or related field, and over five years of satisfactory, full-time paid employment in greens maintenance work, including two years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education or experience, substituting one year of satisfactory, full-time paid employment for one year of the required education and with a maximum substitution of two years.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
