Skills
- BA/BS in Meteorology, Geoscience, or Atmospheric Science
- 1-3 years on-air meteorology experience
- Proficiency with weather forecast software, radar analysis and graphics systems
- Experience posting content to websites and social media; newsroom computer literacy
- Ability to report in the field and operate a news vehicle
- Strong on-air presentation and storytelling skills
- Comfort working shifts and responding during severe weather events
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present accurate on-air weather forecasts and updates in a conversational style
- Provide timely severe weather alerts, interrupting programming when necessary
- Produce clear, creative weather graphics to illustrate forecasts and hazards
- Report live from the field and write weather stories for broadcasts and web
- Update station website and post weather content to social media platforms daily
- Fill in on other shifts and participate in newsroom planning and brainstorming
- Operate news gathering vehicle and make community/public appearances as needed
- Participate in special projects and station initiatives as assigned
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or related field
- Coursework in forecasting and synoptic meteorology preferred
- Certifications such as AMS/NWA considered a plus
