Senior Technical Product Manager, Identity is a critical role responsible for owning and evolving Strava's authentication, authorization, and access control systems across our iOS, Android, and web platforms. In this role, you'll ensure that millions of athletes worldwide have secure, seamless access to their Strava experience while balancing user convenience with platform security and privacy. This position sits at the intersection of security, user experience, and platform growth, working to reduce friction in the authentication experience, implement modern identity standards, and support Strava's mission to build the most engaged and trusted community for athletes.
We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week.
Own the product roadmap for Strava's identity platform, including sign-up (Apple and Google Sign-In, web authentication standards), login, password management, multi-factor authentication, and account recovery flows with a unified user experience and security and technical requirements
Own and evolve Strava’s authorization and access-control systems, including role-based and attribute-based access controls for both user-facing and internal features, ensuring the right users have the right permissions while maintaining privacy, security, and compliance
Define and execute strategies to improve authentication conversion rates while maintaining security best practices and implementing modern authentication methods (OAuth, SSO, biometric authentication, passkeys)
Drive feature parity and consistency across iOS, Android, and web platforms while respecting platform-specific patterns and best practices, working closely with native mobile and web engineering teams
Collaborate with Security, Legal, and Trust and Safety teams to ensure compliance with privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and industry security standards, defining requirements for session management and secure authentication practices, and supporting safety and abuse prevention across the platform
Define and track key metrics for identity systems including authentication success rates, account recovery completion, security incidents, and user satisfaction
Partner with User Lifecycle, Community Management, Marketing, Growth, and Developer teams on initiatives requiring identity system integration, communicating roadmap and technical decisions to leadership and cross-functional partners
Cross-platform experience managing features across mobile (iOS/Android) and web applications
Technical depth with understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML), identity management systems, and security best practices
You have experience building identity systems that serve a portfolio of applications, and you understand the nuances of token management, session continuity, and cross-app authentication
Data-driven mindset with experience using analytics to inform product decisions, define metrics, and conduct experimentation
Proven ability to work effectively with engineering teams and translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Strong communication skills with experience presenting to leadership and influencing cross-functional teams
Experience with consumer-facing applications at scale (preferred: 10M+ users)
Passion for fitness, sports, or the Strava community (a plus)
