The Engineering Manager will lead a development team to deliver high-quality software solutions, mentor team members, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute on technical roadmaps.

This role involves leading and mentoring a development team while contributing to technical decisions and project execution. The ideal candidate will have hands-on development experience and emerging leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering solutions within your team.
  • Lead and mentor a development team, potentially including remote team members.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure security best practices are followed.
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions and help execute on engineering roadmaps.
  • Document systems and processes while implementing best practice engineering methods.
  • Support team growth and development initiatives.
  • Provide regular project updates to leadership and help implement engineering best practices.
  • Monitor team performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion agile processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  •  Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems - technical, product and people.
  • Track record of employing high-quality architectural principles, and identifying and choosing between multiple architectural options.
  • Working knowledge of database technologies such as SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Basic familiarity with modern development languages and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, or similar technologies.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms like AWS or similar services.
  • Working knowledge of project management tools such as Jira.
  • Experience working with user-facing content management systems and websites is a plus.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.     
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to influence at all levels in the organization.
  • Passion for solving problems in education sector is a plus.'

Work Experience:

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience
  • 2-4 years leadership experience. Experience working with or leading remote team members (preferred).
  • Experience implementing engineering best practices within a team environment.
  • Experience contributing to team development and mentoring junior engineers.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field required or established experience.

Certificates, licenses and registrations:

  • GCP Cloud Architect/AWS Solutions Architect
  • GCP Cloud Developer/AWS Associate Developer
  • GCP Cloud DevOps Engineer/AWS Cloud Ops Engineer

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%). 
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
