Skills
- Hands-on manufacturing, testing, or design experience with mechanical systems
- Familiarity with fluid systems, high-voltage systems, sensors, and instrumentation
- Experience with drawings, GD&T, CNC operation and programming, and inspection methods
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex engineering datasets
- Knowledge of solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and dynamics/controls
- Comfort working with high pressures and cryogenic temperatures and in energetic device environments
Responsibilities
- Design and develop manufacturable flow control devices and mechanisms (valves, regulators, pumps, solenoids, flap/fin actuators, destruct charges)
- Simplify and optimize designs and processes to accelerate component delivery and reduce part count
- Serve as chief engineer for assigned hardware, coordinating with stage, avionics, and flight safety teams
- Define and execute qualification tests to failure (vibration, thermal, life, climatic) and create per-unit acceptance tests under flight-like conditions
- Develop and deploy automated test systems and infrastructure to rapidly validate flight hardware
- Operate and enforce rigorous safety procedures for handling energetic and high-pressure systems
- Travel to vendors and other SpaceX sites to support manufacturing and test activities as needed
Education
- Bachelor's degree in physics or an engineering discipline (required)
- Relevant internships, collegiate competition experience, or project team work qualifies as hands-on experience
