Principal Automation & Controls Engineer (Starlink)
Skills
- PLC programming (structured, maintainable code) — experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT preferred
- Safety PLCs and safety logic design to meet ANSI/RIA/OSHA requirements
- HMI/SCADA/IoT systems (MQTT, OPC-UA), ignition systems, and machine health monitoring
- Fieldbus and industrial networking (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP) and serial/Ethernet comms
- Electrical sizing of motors, cables, circuit protection, VFDs, and motor starters
- Panel design and fabrication experience (UL508A) and electrical schematics (EPLAN preferred)
- Robotics programming and integration (ABB preferred)
- Hands-on troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and EMI probes
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UL standards and practical application for control systems
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage end-to-end automation projects from initial ideation through commissioning and hand-off to operations
- Architect, write, review, and debug PLC code with emphasis on organized, maintainable, reusable code for high-volume manufacturing
- Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA-compliant safety systems for robots, gantries, conveyors, and other equipment
- Design clear, simple HMI screens for operator usability, troubleshooting, and machine health monitoring
- Design electrical systems and panels compliant with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A standards
- Develop schedules and budgets, lead cross-functional teams to meet milestones, and support field commissioning and proof-of-rate
- Troubleshoot electrical, control, and electro-mechanical systems during design validation and production ramp
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science (required)
- Advanced degree in engineering or related field (preferred)
