Stage Fluids Engineer II

Relativity Space is building the Terran R launch vehicle and a factory for rapid rocket production. The Stage Fluids Engineer II will design and implement propellant, pressurant, pneumatics, and related fluid system hardware, owning mechanical and structural solutions from concept through production, test, and flight at the Long Beach factory.

Skills

  • Proficiency with commercial CAD (NX, Creo, or SolidWorks)
  • Practical experience with GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
  • Experience selecting and integrating fluid system components (fittings, seals, valves, regulators)
  • Experience using FEA tools for structural analysis
  • Hands-on experience with DFM/DFA and interactions with vendors
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing and designing for 3D printing
  • Strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform fluids routing and design trade studies for propellant, pressurant, and pneumatic systems
  • Design mounting structures and mechanical hardware for fluid system components
  • Perform mechanical verification including hand calculations and FEA to establish structural margins
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) with close collaboration to manufacturing
  • Incorporate additive manufacturing (3D printing) methods into fluid system hardware design
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with propulsion, manufacturing, test, and suppliers to iterate designs
  • Support system testing, integration, and vendor interactions to validate hardware

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline
  • Relevant coursework or experience in fluids, structures, and mechanical design
