Manufacturing Engineer II, Welding
Skills
- Experience with aerospace fusion welding processes (GTAW, robotic welding, laser welding)
- Working knowledge of welding codes/standards (e.g., AWS D17.1)
- Strong fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, fastening/joining, basic metallurgy, and machining
- Familiarity with common manufacturing processes, tooling, inspection methods, and GD&T
- Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills
- Experience creating work instructions, process documentation, and tooling specifications
Responsibilities
- Own large fusion-welded assembly work centers (grid fins, domes, transfer tubes, etc.) and drive them to meet production rate targets
- Design and specify tooling, capital equipment, and work cell layouts to support assembly and rate requirements
- Develop work instructions, specifications, and best practices for high-fidelity welding processes
- Partner with technicians and cross-functional engineers to establish inaugural work stations and standardize processes
- Provide live shop-floor support and resolve production issues while delivering upstream process improvements
- Deliver Design for Manufacturing feedback during development, prototype, and flight builds
- Perform trade studies and engineering analysis to select and validate manufacturing approaches
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical, mechanical, or related engineering discipline required
- 3+ years of progressive, relevant engineering or manufacturing experience required
