Position Overview

The Director of Family Services is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Family Services portfolio. This position ensures effective administration, program development, fiscal oversight, and continuous quality improvement of services that support children and families. The role involves collaborating closely with internal teams, community partners, funders, and stakeholders to advance culturally competent, trauma-informed, and outcome-driven programs. The Director of Family Services also oversees staff supervision, grant management, and community engagement efforts to promote the well-being and resilience of the families served.

Duties  

  • Leads accreditation and continuous quality improvement efforts within the Community Services division and actively participates in agency-wide initiatives. Attends all required contractor meetings.
  • Oversees all administrative, programmatic, and financial aspects of the Family Services portfolio, including federal, state, county, and city grants. 
  • Collaborates with the Finance Department to monitor contractual and fiscal performance measures across all programs.
  • Collaborates with all Program Directors—including those in Clinical Services, Community Transformation, and Youth Workforce Services (YWS)—to support children and families across Para Los Niños’ charter schools and early education centers.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate submission of all reports to government and private funders. Partners closely with Family Services Program Managers and the Outcome and Evaluations team to review content, provide edits and feedback, and prepare final reports for submission.
  • Collaborates with Program Managers and the Outcomes team to analyze feedback and drive continuous program improvement.
  • Develops and implements strategies to ensure programs are aligned with and responsive to community needs. Engages in multiple feedback channels, including client satisfaction surveys, in-person meetings during intake and case planning, and ongoing input from advocacy groups. 
  • Collaborates with the Development Department on public relations, fundraising activities, and the pursuit of public and private grant opportunities, including proposal and program development.
  • Leads continuous quality improvement efforts in partnership with the Vice President of Student and Community Services, including quarterly outcome reviews with Clinical Coordinators and Program Managers. Oversees quality assurance across all Family Services programs, including the development of systems to gather, assess, and measure outcome-based results, and manages responses to contractor audit findings and corrective action plans.
  • Ensures family engagement throughout the intake and treatment planning process by supervising direct reports to promote collaborative decision-making and inclusive care practices. Reinforces the importance of participant voice and choice in service involvement, ensuring that treatment plans are developed in partnership with families. Supports Program Managers in monitoring staff adherence to family-centered approaches that aim to prevent abuse and neglect and promote healthy parent/caregiver–child relationships.
  • Oversees all personnel related matters including recruitment and hiring, professional development and discipline and termination of all family service staff.
  • Rotates on-call duties with direct supervisees and other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics 

  • Master's degree, PhD, or PsyD in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university. 
  • Holds a current LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. 
  • Two years of post-license supervisory experience for unlicensed and licensed clinicians.
  • Applies cultural responsiveness through ongoing training focused on African American and Latino families and collaborates with DCFS to address disproportionality in high-need zip codes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required, and we celebrate linguistic diversity, valuing the unique perspectives and strengths that multilingual team members bring to our organization.
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 50%within the county, state, and across the United States.
  • Valid CA Class C driver's license, personal vehicle, and California automobile insurance required.

  • Employee will be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance . 
  • TB test clearance to be renewed every two years.
  • Verification of Immunizations required by the California Department of Health (Pertussis, Measles and Influenza).
