Non-Fiction Writing Experts
Role Overview
Mercor is partnering with a frontier AI lab to source nonfiction writing experts — including journalists, essayists, and opinion columnists — to support a short-term generative AI research initiative. Freelancers will help train and evaluate AI systems - this is a unique opportunity to apply your editorial expertise toward shaping the next generation of writing-capable models. The engagement is part-time and runs for 6–8 weeks.
Ideal Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional nonfiction writing experience in journalism, magazines, or digital publications
- Portfolio includes bylines in respected outlets (e.g., The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vox, The Guardian)
- Deep familiarity with nonfiction genres such as investigative reporting, essays, commentary, or cultural criticism
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to articulate writing quality
- Comfortable working independently and asynchronously

Compensation & Contract Terms
