Platform Engineer II

Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

The Team

The Systems Platform Team provides the building blocks used by all teams to deploy, secure, and monitor products that are common to all Krakens. We bake stability and security into our architecture, and remove any infrastructural blockers to Kraken meeting its scaling goals.

We manage all infrastructure shared across global Krakens, including deployment pipelines, cloud hosting and networking, and make sure this infrastructure is simple to duplicate, maintain and understand.

What you'll do:
  • Deliver platform improvements through features, bug fixes, and automation.
  • Manage and operate Kubernetes-based environments - we use EKS.
  • Implement and maintain GitOps workflows using ArgoCD or FluxCD.
  • Build platform tooling and automation primarily in Go or Python also
  • acceptable.
  • Provide production support for highly-available, internet-facing systems.
  • Collaborate with a global, remote-first team using asynchronous
  • communication.
  • Contribute to code reviews, troubleshooting, and technology evaluations.

What you'll have:
  • Prior experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production across major cloud platforms (EKS, AKS, GKE); EKS experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Helm for package management in Kubernetes.
  • Practical experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or FluxCD in production.
  • Proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python for platform automation and development.
  • Strong understanding of AWS services beyond Kubernetes (networking, IAM, storage, etc.).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar).
  • Knowledge of containers and observability tools (Datadog or similar).
  • Understanding of security best practices in Kubernetes and CI/CD.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in distributed, asynchronous teams.

What will help:
  • Experience maintaining or developing Kubernetes operators.
  • Strong Linux systems and Kubernetes knowledge paired with troubleshooting skills.
  • Proactive, problem-solving orientation with an interest in continual improvement.
  • Prior experience in globally distributed, follow-the-sun teams

Why you'll love it here:
  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options including FSAs.
  • Paid time off — we know working hard means also being able to recharge as needed, we trust our employees to get the work done and take the time they need.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Parental leave. Biological, adoptive and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits.
  • Flexible working environment: you need to shift around your schedule? You do you, we genuinely believe in work/life balance.
  • Equity Options: every Octopus employee owns part of the business. We’re a team, working together towards huge goals. Every person is crucial to our success, you should be rewarded as such.
  • Modern office or co-working spaces depending on location.
  • The salary range for this role in the US ranges on average from $115,000-$150,000 depending on relevant experience, role alignment, and performance throughout the interview process. While the broad salary range is listed, not all candidates will be placed at the top of the range—this will be determined by the overall fit for the position. If you have questions about this, just ask! Our recruiters are happy to provide more context.

We are ideally looking to hire this role in New York City, but would consider anyone in the East Coast timezone.
