Systems Design Lead - RPG (Remote - US)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Systems Design Lead - RPG in the United States.

As a Systems Design Lead, you will own the core gameplay systems of a new RPG title, driving player engagement and long-term retention. You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and UX teams to create compelling progression, combat, and economy systems. Your work will directly shape player experiences, influence live operations, and define strategic design decisions for the game. You will mentor junior designers, provide clear documentation, and iterate systems using data insights and player feedback. This role offers the opportunity to lead system-level design from concept through launch while contributing to a highly skilled, international team.

Accountabilities

·        Design, own, and iterate core progression systems including characters, skills, gear, and upgrades to ensure depth and long-term player investment.

·        Create and balance combat systems and gameplay loops that are strategic, engaging, and replayable.

·        Develop and manage game economies, reward structures, and resource flows to support healthy progression and retention.

·        Evaluate system performance using analytics and player feedback to guide design improvements.

·        Produce and maintain detailed design documentation, feature specifications, and implementation guidelines.

·        Partner with Engineering and UX teams to prototype, validate, and refine gameplay features.

·        Support live operations with scalable systems and content-driven retention mechanics.

·        Mentor junior designers and contribute to team growth and design best practices.

·        4–6 years of experience in Game Design, with a strong focus on systems design.

·        Proven experience working on midcore or RPG titles, preferably free-to-play.

·        Expertise in progression, combat systems, or economy balancing, with an understanding of system interactions.

·        Knowledge of F2P design principles, retention loops, and live game systems.

·        Strong analytical skills and experience using game KPIs to inform design decisions.

·        Ability to own system-level features end-to-end and collaborate cross-functionally.

·        Excellent documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills.

·        Passion for RPGs and creating meaningful, long-lasting player experiences.
