Staff Backend Engineer (Remote - US)

As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend systems that power real-time applications across the organization. You will build and optimize microservices and streaming data infrastructure to handle high-throughput workloads with minimal latency. Collaborating with product managers, data scientists, and cross-functional engineering teams, you will translate complex business requirements into reliable, efficient technical solutions. This role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud architectures, and observability best practices, with a focus on delivering resilient and fault-tolerant systems. You will also mentor and guide engineers, contribute to technical strategy, and drive innovation in backend technologies at scale. Your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, and scalability of critical systems that serve thousands to millions of users.

Accountabilities:

·         Lead the architecture, design, and development of high-throughput, low-latency backend services and APIs.

·         Build and maintain streaming data pipelines and event-driven systems for real-time processing and analytics.

·         Ensure backend systems are highly performant, resilient, and observable under heavy load.

·         Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.

·         Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.

·         Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, contributing to innovation and technical strategy.

·         8+ years of software engineering experience building backend systems, with 3+ years in a senior or lead role (Staff Engineer or Principal Engineer).

·         Proven experience designing and building distributed, high-throughput, low-latency systems.

·         Expertise in microservices architecture, API design, and cloud-native systems (AWS preferred).

·         Proficiency in Java and Go for backend development; Python experience for scripting or automation is a plus.

·         Hands-on experience with streaming data platforms and event-driven frameworks (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming, Flink).

·         Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and high-volume application data stores.

·         Familiarity with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.

·         Solid understanding of system observability, monitoring, and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).

·         Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills in agile environments.

·         Bonus: Experience in programmatic advertising or high-frequency data processing platforms.
