Senior Engineer, Backend Identity (Remote - US)

As a Senior Backend Identity Engineer, you will design, develop, and scale critical identity services that underpin modern cloud platforms. You will work on high-impact projects that enhance authentication, authorization, and secure identity management, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, fault-tolerant backend solutions. This role balances hands-on engineering with mentorship, allowing you to influence architectural decisions, shape best practices, and guide junior team members. Your contributions will directly improve system performance, security, and developer experience, supporting the delivery of seamless, large-scale identity solutions.

Accountabilities:

·         Design, develop, and maintain robust backend identity services and middleware, ensuring scalability and reliability.

·         Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, proactively identifying root causes and implementing solutions.

·         Lead complex projects end-to-end, including requirement gathering, system design, development, testing, and deployment.

·         Uphold code quality standards through code reviews, automated testing, and performance monitoring.

·         Mentor junior engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.

·         Contribute to architectural decisions and documentation, including ADRs and system diagrams.

·         Participate in on-call rotation and support operational reliability of identity systems.

·         Minimum of 5 years of backend development experience, building scalable cloud services.

·         Strong proficiency in Go, Node.js, MongoDB, Auth0, and cloud platforms (GCP preferred).

·         Solid understanding of web technologies, APIs, and best practices for secure identity systems.

·         Ability to write high-quality, testable code, balancing speed with maintainability.

·         Experience troubleshooting production systems and identifying root causes.

·         Preferred: experience with infrastructure-as-code pipelines, OAuth, OpenID Connect, FIDO standards, and cryptographic principles.

·         Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience mentoring junior engineers.

·         Competitive base salary: $149,700 – $187,100 USD.
