Principal Software Engineer (Identity)

This role is a strategic and technical leadership position focused on unifying identity, authentication, and authorization systems across a complex platform ecosystem. You will define the identity architecture, lead the consolidation of multiple identity systems, and establish secure, scalable patterns for authentication and authorization. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will influence technical strategy, drive platform-wide standards, and mentor engineers on identity best practices. This position requires balancing deep technical expertise with the ability to guide teams through complex decisions, delivering a seamless identity experience for users. You will have the opportunity to shape long-term identity strategy, ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, and impact the organization’s security and usability at scale.

• Accountabilities
• Define and execute a consolidated identity vision across all platforms, covering account linking, unified entitlements, and cross-platform authentication.
• Architect solutions for identity federation, OAuth2/OIDC, SSO, and authorization to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Lead the consolidation of multiple identity systems into a single source of truth, including user migration, conflict resolution, and bridging architectures.
• Streamline and consolidate numerous OIDC/SSO configurations into cohesive, maintainable identity infrastructure.
• Partner with Security, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to guide migration trade-offs and implement best practices.
• Maintain secure, scalable identity systems aligned with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor engineers on identity protocols, access models, and secure implementation patterns, while shaping hiring and team growth in identity-focused roles.

• Requirements
• 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in digital identity.
• Proven experience consolidating identity platforms, particularly post-acquisition.
• Mastery of OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, JWT, SSO, identity federation, and API security.
• Strong background in account linking, identity reconciliation, and user migration.
• Expertise in RBAC/ABAC and policy-based access control.
• Ability to align cross-functional leadership around complex identity decisions.
• Understanding of HIPAA or similar regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Preferred: Experience in healthcare or regulated industries, STS, API gateways, zero-trust architectures, Ping Identity solutions, and identity resolution algorithms.
