In this role, you will work at the forefront of AI-driven software maintenance, focusing on automating patch backporting for legacy systems and unsupported software. You will explore innovative approaches, rapidly prototype solutions, and integrate successful experiments into production-ready systems. Collaborating with a highly skilled, remote-first team, your work will directly impact large-scale infrastructure security and operational efficiency. Accountabilities:

• Conduct research to turn problem statements and hypotheses into concrete experiment plans, selecting methods, tools, and metrics.
• Run lightweight experiments to evaluate feasibility and the potential value of new approaches.
• Implement research findings and integrate them into production systems, ensuring reliability and maintainability.
• Build, automate, and maintain evaluation metrics within CI pipelines to monitor experiment outcomes.
• Develop production-quality Python tools, CLIs, and small services that accelerate experimentation and deployment.
• Document experiments, decisions, and results to enable knowledge sharing and future adoption across the team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accelerate innovation and support large-scale infrastructure projects.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a developer or engineering lead.
• Proficiency in Python with experience building production-ready tools and services.
• Hands-on experience integrating large language models (LLMs) via APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
• Familiarity with RAG, CAG, and agent-based approaches.
• Basic infrastructure knowledge, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and testing automation.
• Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to translate research into practical engineering solutions.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Published research or prior experimentation experience.
• Data analysis skills and experience designing evaluation metrics.
• Basic knowledge of the C programming language.
• Familiarity with AI engineering tools such as Cursor, WindSurf, or Aider.
