Nurse Practitioner – Intensive Care Unit (Nights)

A leading healthcare system is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join its Intensive Care Unit team. This advanced practice role serves as a clinical expert, educator, consultant, case manager, and researcher—collaborating with medical and nursing staff to improve patient care quality, safety, and outcomes in an acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Expert

• Develop and assist in implementing nursing care plans and standards tailored to the patient population.
• Provide guidance to nursing staff in clinical decision-making, priority setting, and advanced assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Evaluate and introduce new techniques and equipment for safety, cost-effectiveness, and improved patient outcomes.
• Perform patient histories and physicals, write medical orders per established protocols, and provide approved clinical services (e.g., suture removal, complex wound care).
• Conduct daily rounds, collect and analyze patient data, and assess care appropriateness.

Educator

• Provide patient, family, and caregiver education on health, wellness, and disease prevention.
• Develop educational materials and programs for discharge planning.
• Serve as a resource for nursing staff, students, and other healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to nursing literature and education initiatives.

Researcher

• Participate in and facilitate nursing research to expand evidence-based practice.
• Disseminate findings through publications and presentations.
• Critically evaluate current research for applicability in clinical settings.

Consultant

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care strategies and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing with national certification in intended practice area from the American Nurses Credentialing Center or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
• Current Texas RN license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in ICU or relevant specialty.
• Minimum 2 years in an advanced practice role.
• Must be credentialed to work in an acute care setting.
