SUMMARY

The Development Officer, Corporate Engagement supports the solicitation and stewardship of companies in our corporate engagement program including members and those who have made a philanthropic contribution or sponsored Exploratorium programs, projects, events, or exhibitions. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication, writing, proofreading, and computer skills. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in and an entrepreneurial approach to corporate fundraising with the ability to work independently with a wide and diverse range of staff and external partners to meet competing priorities and develop relationships. This position is a member of the Institutional Advancement Department (IA) and reports to the Director, Corporate Engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Strategize with the Director, Corporate Engagement on the most appropriate approaches to secure up to $1.7M in annual support from the corporate community
  • Responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporations capable of making contributions of $5,000 or more to the annual campaign or corporate membership program
  • Write clear and compelling proposal narratives, grants, and reports providing accurate information based on close coordination with IA team members, program staff, and other internal departments
  • Maintain and actively manage a portfolio of 50-100 prospects and donors; adhering to IA prospect management processes and procedures with a goal to continually research, assess and upgrade the assigned portfolio
  • Devise a holistic philanthropic strategy for prospects in the portfolio with the goal of soliciting for multi-year gifts and pledges in support of the museum’s current and future programs, projects, events, or exhibitions
  • Conduct 10-15 donor engagement activities per month in addition to engaging prospects at Exploratorium and/or external events and networking opportunities; occasional evening and weekends required
  • Lead the efforts in collaboration with other IA staff to create an active prospect pipeline identifying and qualifying leads through research, demonstrated affinity, discussions with leadership and program staff, and other resources
  • Manage all Corporate Engagement operations including:
  • Monthly e-newsletters communication on programming and engagement opportunities
  • Track submissions, deadlines and reports
  • Database management and the ability to extract related revenue reports
  • Benefit fulfillment
  • Other responsibilities as requested
  • Manage Corporate Membership program
  • Identify potential members and those with interest in engaging at an increased level
  • Oversee the membership renewal process, including renewal tracking and timelines
  • Create materials for membership renewal and prospecting campaigns
  • Update donor listing and website to include all members
  • Partner in the development and management of stewardship and engagement events
  • Conduct prospect research and aid in pipeline development for companies; mine event data and RSVPs for new prospects and donor networks
  • Solicit and oversee the tracking and acknowledgement of corporate in-kind donations
  • Attend Development meetings to discuss fundraising strategies and make recommendations on cultivation strategies and priorities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques and ethics; experience in devising strategies for cultivation and solicitation of corporate donors; fundraising experience in the arts and sciences highly desired
  • 3+ years of experience working in fund or business development, or related positions, with a proven track record of developing relationships and closing gifts
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to independently work and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and research skills
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with frequent deadlines and balance competing priorities; ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work flexibly in a team environment
  • Able to exhibit tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Salesforce); proficiency with database systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 1 year developing partnerships and/or event sponsorships with the local and national philanthropic corporate community

This is a regular, full-time (37.5 hours per week), exempt, union position that includes benefits. The starting range for this role is $46.30 to $49.01.
