Temporary Accounting Associate - Full-time

BUILD is looking for an experienced professional to join our team as an Accounting Associate! But be advised, this is not your typical plug-and-play accounting shop. We’re in the middle of a substantial overhaul of our accounting infrastructure to support our tremendous ongoing growth, and we need your passion for precise accounting, process improvement, and best practices. You’ll work closely with the CFO and Controller with the opportunity to make your mark with an established and respected non-profit leader providing vital services to Chicago’s rising west side. If this sounds exciting, then we’d love to hear from you! This position will report to the Controller and does not supervise any staff. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Reconciliation of the general ledger accounts, focusing on accuracy and completeness
• Post period transactions to general ledger
• Support accounts payable processing; including vendor relations and employee reimbursement
• Support the grant vouchering process including gathering documentation and completing schedules
• Analyze cash flows and forecast to identify potential problems and opportunities
• Draft & utilize standardized roll-forward monthly schedules.
• Contribute to ongoing special projects as assigned (e.g., audit prep, data clean-up) 

Requirements

Need-to-haves: 

• Associate's degree in accounting or at least 2 years of experience in financial, bookkeeping or accounting related roles. 
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop, specifically invoicing, bank and accounts/subledgers reconciliation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfort with asking questions when something isn’t clear, rather than making assumptions.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop
• Ability to work a flexible schedule five days per week at our beautiful, brand-new offices.

Nice-to-haves: 

• Intermediate Excel skills, i.e.: Working with tables and functions, filters and formatting including SUMIF, COUNTIF, Remove Duplicates and Text to Columns. 
• Preference for proper process documentation. 
• Experience with non-profit accounting. 
• Familiarity with third-party platforms, including Bill.com, or Expensify
