Systems Engineer - Over the Air Software Updates
Skills
- Hands-on implementation of OTA solutions for automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers
- 5+ years in embedded systems with focus on software update mechanisms
- Strong knowledge of secure deployment: PKI, code signing, secure boot, cryptographic verification
- Experience with embedded Linux, QNX, or similar POSIX-based OS update mechanisms
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR Classic or Adaptive and integrating OTA into those frameworks
- Experience working with functional safety (ISO 26262) and ASIL considerations
- Ability to design orchestration for multi-ECU, fleet-scale updates
- Experience developing HIL and system-level validation for updates
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end OTA update architectures supporting atomic updates, rollback, and differential patching for ECUs and domain controllers
- Develop orchestration systems to coordinate multi-ECU updates while preserving vehicle safety and minimizing downtime
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement PKI-based code signing, secure boot chains, and tamper detection
- Integrate OTA capabilities with POSIX-based embedded systems and AUTOSAR Classic/Adaptive platforms
- Define packaging, versioning, and dependency management strategies for complex ADAS and infotainment stacks
- Partner with functional safety teams to ensure ISO 26262 compliance and maintain ASIL requirements during updates
- Develop testing and validation frameworks, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and fleet-scale deployment validation
- Produce comprehensive system documentation, requirements, and traceability artifacts to support certification
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Relevant industry training or certifications in embedded systems, cybersecurity, or automotive functional safety preferred
