Staff Data Platform Engineer - Data Engine
Skills
- 10+ years in data engineering, distributed systems, or backend engineering roles
- Proven track record architecting and building large-scale, data-intensive distributed systems
- Deep experience with ETL frameworks and processing engines (e.g., Spark, Flink), orchestration (Airflow, Flyte), and streaming (Kafka)
- Strong understanding of data modeling, partitioning, schema evolution, and metadata management
- Hands-on with cloud object stores (AWS S3), lakehouse architectures, and data warehouses
- Ability to drive technical discussions with engineers and non-technical stakeholders; strong leadership and communication
Responsibilities
- Define long-term data platform vision and technical roadmap balancing scalability, reliability, cost, and developer experience
- Partner with autonomy stack teams to gather requirements and translate them into platform capabilities
- Architect and build end-to-end, large-scale ETL, ingestion, transformation, and delivery workflows
- Define and enforce data contracts, SLAs, and integration patterns between producers and consumers
- Champion best practices for governance, schema evolution, lineage, quality, and observability
- Mentor engineers and influence cross-team technical decisions and standards
- Collaborate with infrastructure, ML platform, labeling, and autonomy teams to ensure smooth data flow
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a related field is a plus but not required
