- 5+ years designing thermal systems for integrated hardware products
- MS or currently pursuing MS in engineering or applied physics with focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- Practical experience with passive and active thermal management systems
- Thermal testing experience including sensor selection, DAQ, and data post-processing
- Thermal FEA/CFD experience (STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, or Flotherm)
- CAD proficiency with SolidWorks or Siemens NX
- Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to work autonomously
- U.S. Person (required for export-controlled information/facilities)
Responsibilities
- Own thermal design and analysis for a hardware development program from concept through verification.
- Use first-principles hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python models to guide detailed design decisions.
- Define thermal architecture for rugged environments and identify hot/cold/edge cases per standards and use cases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to document power dissipation across operating modes.
- Develop and maintain thermal FEA/CFD models to predict system performance and set red/yellow design limits.
- Plan and execute prototype builds and thermal tests: CAD, sensor selection, DAQ setup, data post-processing, and result summarization.
- Present thermal status at formal internal and customer reviews with clear timelines and technical rationale.
- Create internal tools to improve analysis efficiency and support failure reviews and root-cause analysis using test data.
Education
- MS in engineering or applied physics with emphasis on heat transfer and fluid dynamics (or currently pursuing MS)
- Relevant coursework or practical experience in CFD, FEA, and thermal testing
