The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Research and Grants Administrator in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX . (Flexible work arrangements available)

The Associate Research and Grants Administrator will serve as manager for the Association's foundational research awards for specific programs and regions.  Handling the administrative process and day-to-day management services for investigators and their institutional grants and fiscal officers. You would conduct compliance reviews for assigned projects and assist customers in understanding and interpreting the Association's policies and procedures for awards management.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Awards Management:

• Reviews and approves award agreements (contracts and subcontracts) for funded projects, including awards for special research initiatives.
• Manages awards for compliance with American Heart Association policies and procedures. Determines corrective process and action for awards that are not in compliance.
• Monitors on-time submissions and makes decisions related to any requested exceptions or change requests.
• Manages award budgets (ranging from $30-$400K) to determine they meet Association budgetary allowances and stated requirements. Reviews and approves annual financial reports for compliance with policies.
• Provides information and consultation to all customer groups (awardees, institutional personnel, and sponsors)
• Works closely with principal investigators, grants officers and fiscal officers at the funded institutions to ensure successful reporting, communications, and outcomes.

Add Special Projects:

• Serve as backup to Research and Grants Administration senior manager, generating and analyzing reconciliation reports for finance staff and managing multi-million dollar quarterly payment process.
• Data quality reviews to evaluate the accuracy of information specifically for transferring and terminating awards.
• Participate in annual institution selection and audit process.
• Assist management with special projects as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience 
• Two (2) years of related or account management work experience required.
• Ability to interpret and communicate information accurately and effectively to a variety of audiences.
• Ability to use databases to execute queries for information.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

• Experience managing application, notification, and awards processes preferred.
• Experience in research administration with a funding organization.
• Experience/proficiency with electronic research administration systems.
• Experience working with volunteers, particularly science volunteers.
