Overview:
The CDC Foundation is seeking a Senior Epidemiologist, who, under general supervision, will assist with development, implementation, and management of the EpiTrax disease surveillance system and its Electronic Message Staging Area (EMSA) for the Nevada Office of State Epidemiology (OSE). The role is designed for a collaborative individual with a strong background in public health and epidemiology, focusing on applying epidemiologic concepts to informatics to enhance the state’s ability to respond to communicable disease outbreaks and conduct timely data analysis.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
· Master of Public Health (MPH) in the health sciences, public administration, social sciences or closely related field and two years of experience in the health/social sciences or related field which involved analysis of health data, identification of health care needs, and the development of health care reports, policies and programs;
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
· Demonstrated organizational skills exhibiting high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities
· Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and engaging in strategic partnerships
· Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Desired Qualifications
· PhD in Epidemiology or a related field, or a DrPH in Epidemiology or a related field
· Experience with electronic lab reporting and electronic health records and their supporting infrastructure (Mirth, Rhapsody, EMSA, etc.)
· Working knowledge of disease surveillance systems (e.g., EpiTrax, NBS, MAVEN, PRISM)
· Strong data management and analysis skills
· Experience conducting research on epidemiology of infectious diseases
· Experience with data visualization (e.g., PowerBI, Shiny, Tableau)
· Experience parsing and reading HL7 messaging and using LOINC, SNOMED, and ICD codes
· Experience with Electric Medical Record (EMR) systems, like EPIC or Cerner
· Knowledge of R or SAS statistical software
Responsibilities:
· Provide technical guidance to the OSE Informatics Team on epidemiologic characteristics of diseases and conditions that need to be set up in the EpiTrax system
· Reference CDC resources and work with the OSE Informatics Team to develop electronic versions of case report forms in the EpiTrax system
· Work with the OSE Informatics Team to develop standard operating procedures and training materials for the broader OSE team on optimally using all of EpiTrax’s functionality
· Coordinate with local health authorities to understand their informatics needs and reach consensuses on proposed informatics changes
· Communicate informatics progress to OSE leadership on a regular basis
· Typical office hours Monday – Friday 8:00 AM PT – 5:00 PM PT
· Travel as Required
