The Selling team at Whatnot is responsible for building the end-to-end experience of listings, empowering sellers to merchandise their inventory in our various sales channels and formats. They shape the technical foundation of the commerce journey, from seller tools, merchandising systems, sales formats, and checkout experience. Seller Merchandising focuses on essential components that enhance Whatnotâs customer experience. They are committed to crafting a fun and engaging journey for buyers and sellers by providing the necessary tools for frictionless shopping on Whatnotâfeatures like Checkout, Listing Page, Seller Shop, Buy It Now, and Flash Sales. Looking ahead, the team is poised to innovate and expand, ensuring an ever-evolving and dynamic marketplace for all users.

Shape the future of e-commerce by elevating purchasing experiences like Auctions, Buy It Nows, and Flash Sales.
Invent new ways for users to shop and interact, giving Whatnot buyers more choice and flexibility.
Build with the latest web technologies (Apollo, Next.js, and beyond) to modernize our web stack and push the boundaries of performance.
Architect and scale checkout and purchasing systems that power Whatnotâs rapid growth and industry-leading marketplace.
Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York City hub.

As our next Fullstack Engineer on Seller Merchandising, you should have 5+ years of generalist software development experience in high growth startups, plus:
Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of multiple programming languages (we primarily use Python, Elixir, JavaScriptâknowledge of these in particular not required)
Web development experience with React, using GraphQL for API development, and modern frontend applications (exposure to Next.js framework is not required but preferred)
Excellent product instinctsâyou first think about users rather than the best technical solution
You can mentor others, and prioritize building inclusive, supportive teams
Project ownerâyouâve strong ownership instincts and can own projects from inception to production and beyond
