Job Description

Ready to use data to shape the future of education?

Join WGU and help us turn data into action that improves student outcomes and drives innovation.

The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) team supports and enables most university teams, departments, and colleges to make data-informed decisions that lead to better student outcomes. Our analysts, scientists, researchers, and managers are distributed across several teams: Institutional Research, Institutional Metrics & Insights, Outreach Analytics, Faculty Analytics, Curriculum Analytics, and Student Success Analytics.

About the Institutional Metrics & Insights (IMI) Team

The IMI team delivers executive-facing metrics that define how WGU measures impact, performance, and student outcomes. We partner with analytics teams and stakeholders across the university to create a single source of truth for metrics, turning raw data into powerful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

The Role: Data Analyst

As a Data Analyst on the IMI team, you’ll extract, process, analyze, and report on data to produce actionable insights and research. You’ll collaborate with peers in Data Engineering, Product Management, Finance, EdTech, and Faculty, building relationships and delivering information that privileges data storytelling and compresses time-to-action.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on solving complex data challenges, enjoys working across multiple domains, and has a knack for turning technical details into stories that drive action.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze and report on data to deliver actionable insights.
  • Build visualizations and dashboards in Tableau.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve data challenges.
  • Support data pipeline development and ensure data quality.
  • Communicate findings through clear storytelling and presentations.
  • Continuously learn and contribute to team growth.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Decision Intelligence, Research, Learning Science, or Behavioral/Cognitive Psychology.
  • Experience with SQL (queries, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, performance tuning).
  • Experience with Tableau and Power BI for data visualization.
  • Sound judgment, systems-thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, reliably, and with a bias for action, managing multiple priorities with support from leaders.

Experience in lieu of education

An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Bonus Points If You Have:

   •   Experience working in higher education or with student success metrics.

Work Location

  • This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data-informed innovation.
