Your New Role...

CNN is hiring a Director of Development for its new streaming service. This role is focused on the creation, piloting and launch of new video formats and franchises for a direct-to-consumer platform. The Senior Development Producer is a highly creative editorial leader who thrives in shaping new concepts from the ground up – combining visual innovation, deep journalistic instincts and platform-savvy thinking to build what’s next in video storytelling. 


Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Lead the development and piloting of original video formats for VOD and streaming, from concept, greenlight and execution. 

  • Create treatments, pilot scripts and mood boards to communicate vision and tone across teams and stakeholders. 

  • Pitch and test content ideas that align with audience behavior, emerging formats, and CNN’s editorial mission. 

  • Collaborate with producers, reporters, correspondents, anchors and contributors across CNN to develop vehicles that showcase talent and subject matter expertise in new, internet-native ways. 

  • Shape creative direction for pilots and prototypes, overseeing scripting, visual identity, pacing and editorial framing. 

  • Manage iterative feedback loops and format testing based on data, internal feedback, and editorial goals. 

  • Partner with management to scope cost-effective budgets and timelines for pilots and beyond. 

  • Work closely with design, product, audience development and strategy teams to ensure new concepts are platform-aware and scalable. 

  • Stay ahead of trends in digital storytelling, creator-driven media and news consumption patterns to inform development slate. 

  • Support the evolution of CNN’s streaming identity by contributing bold, fresh storytelling that sets the standard for digital-first news video. 

  • The Senior Development Producer/Director fulfills these responsibilities by utilizing demonstrable technical, editorial and development expertise. Assignments will be completed under production deadlines, requiring flexibility with schedule/working hours.  

Qualifications & Experience...

  • Typically 10+ years of experience developing and producing editorial video, with a track record of building successful formats from scratch. 

  • Strong creative instincts and ability to translate editorial ideas into compelling visual formats. 

  • Demonstrated experience launching new franchises or video series, especially for digital or streaming platforms. 

  • Familiarity with data-driven content development and experimentation cycles. 

  • Comfortable working with high-profile talent and executives, with the ability to shape ideas collaboratively. 

  • Skilled in scripting, creative development, visual storytelling and pilot production workflows. 

  • Deep understanding of current media trends and evolving audience habits. 

  • Strong collaborator and cross-functional partner    

  • A natural innovator with a passion for pushing journalism into new formats and platforms.                                 

  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite. 

  • Demonstrated technical and creative expertise in editing and producing, including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on After Effects and color correction  

  • Must be agile and adaptable in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $112,000.00 - $208,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
