Responsibilities
- Provide client communication and updates for hospitalized patients, pre/post-op and home care instructions, and medication guidance
- Educate clients on preventative care, vaccines, laboratory procedures, and hospital financial policies
- Greet clients, escort patients to exam rooms, and promote practice services and products
- Safely restrain animals and assist veterinarians during medical, surgical, and dental procedures
- Prepare patients for surgery, administer and monitor anesthesia, and monitor recovery
- Administer fluids, SQ/IM/IV injections, place IV catheters, and perform emergency treatments when needed
- Perform laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms
- Maintain surgical materials, equipment, inventory, and cleanliness of treatment and exam areas
- Maintain accurate patient records in a paperless medical record system for billing and clinical documentation
- Cross-train on CSR duties: answer calls, schedule appointments, process refills, and make reminder/follow-up calls
- Assist with dispensing medications, preparing prescription labels, and packaging medications as directed
Education
- High school diploma or GED (minimum)
- Veterinary Technician degree or certification preferred
- Licensure (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred for Licensed Technician candidates
