General Notes

We seek a data analysts for the project: “Understanding how U.S. Immigrant and Immigration Policies Affect Latino Adolescents’ School Lives.” In this project, we create novel datasets containing information on state immigrant policies and on racial profiling lawsuits across the U.S. over approximately a 15-year period. We then analyze these data and merge them with geocoded survey data to understand the implications of U.S. immigrant policy landscapes for Latino adolescents’ crime victimization, socioemotional development, and educational trajectories.

Purpose

This is a part-time position that entails project-related research and activities for 20 hours/week. This position is for 12 months maximum. Start date is ideally September 15, 2025 but is flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Data scraping and textual data compilation to generate, for example, a database of racial profiling lawsuits
  • Textual data coding, including the creation of variables characterizing attributes of textual items, like racial identification of plaintiffs
  • Quantitative data assembly through the acquisition, cleaning, and merging of existing data
  • Quantitative data coding and analysis, including the creation of variables, graphs, figures, maps, descriptive statistics
  • Creation of replicable file packages and data documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Master's with at least 4 years of related experience, or a Bachelor's with at least 6 years related experience
  • Familiarity with web scraping
  • Familiarity with computer programming and Python
  • Ability to create and analyze quantitative data files

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Sociology, Journalism, or Demography or J.D.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
     

Salary Range

Prorated salary: $32,000- $34,000
