Purpose

Lead and manage CONNECT, a successful experiential learning program that matches advanced degree students and scholars with organizations for project-based support. Sustainably expand the program to increase organization engagement and opportunities for the UT Austin advanced degree community. Collaborate closely with community organizations, funders, and campus stakeholders to expand the impact and reach of community engaged experiences in the career ecosystem for graduate students at UT Austin. This position is supervised by the Associate Director for Employer Integration in the Office of Career & Life Design (OCLD) in the Graduate School at UT Austin.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Management: Develop, plan and implement strategies necessary to ensure high-quality delivery of relevant experiential learning opportunities to advanced degree (AD) students and deliverables to client organizations. In collaboration with the Associate Director for Employer Integration, manage the budget, human resources, external funding and revenue generation related to community engaged experiences, and the CONNECT program. Hire, train and manage graduate assistants to support program management and selection processes. Work closely with the OCLD program administrator and business services in the graduate school to invoice client organizations, collect payment, and distribute student awards.

Outreach & Communication: Manage existing and cultivate new relationships with organization clients, advanced degree students, faculty and staff across multiple colleges and schools at UT Austin, as well as external stakeholders to increase experiential learning engagement across the continuum of programs for all UT Austin graduate students & postdocs. Collaborate closely with the employer Integration team to align external organizational outreach and coordinate with the OCLD team to curate professional development training for program participants. Collaborate and support OCLD and Graduate School large scale events such as Graduate Student Orientation, Convocation, Empower Your Pitch etc. Contribute to a positive team environment and culture by supporting team initiatives and events. Collaborate with RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service, career service offices, and development to create and steward community and funder relationships as needed.

Individual and Group Career & Professional Development Advising: Provide career advising and coaching specifically for advanced degree students and postdoctoral scholars with a focus on preparation for public service, nonprofit and community-based employment. Types of advising can include meeting 1:1 or in groups with students and scholars in person, through video conference, and by phone on topics ranging from application document preparation, career changing, career advancement, exploration and planning, interviewing, negotiation, and decision-making strategies.

Assessment and Impact Reporting: Working closely with the team, develop and implement strategies for measuring, tracking and reporting key program goals and outcomes. Oversee effective, timely, and responsive communication with leadership, community stakeholders and partners increasing awareness of the impact of CONNECT and community engaged experiences.

Thought Leadership, Learning & Resources: Provide leadership to ensure the UT-Austin campus is aware of the value of the CONNECT program. Provide thought leadership and contribute to the university, state and national initiatives related to experiential learning for advanced degree students and scholars and community engagement.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree and 3-5 years of work experience in outreach, marketing, program design, or experiential learning. Knowledge of graduate student career and professional development needs, and nonprofit ecosystem. Ability to work quickly and collaboratively with campus partners. Demonstrated excellent persuasive communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and build relationships with UT leadership, faculty, staff, students and community stakeholders including funders, government, social impact and in the private sector. Natural curiosity and bias towards action. Ability to create structure in ambiguous contexts and drive the success and continuous improvement including process documentation. Passion for working with graduate students.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exceed the required qualifications and have experience working with the nonprofit communities in Texas. Knowledge and experience with data and assessment projects, to be able to scope projects and align talent with projects. Experience consulting with social impact organizations and employers and managing remote projects. Experience working in a highly complex research university or institution. Demonstrated success in fundraising for ideas or selling something.

Salary Range

$66,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

• Work around standard office conditions.
• Work performed on concurrent projects, often involving mission-critical deadlines.
• May require occasional extended work hours or on-call obligation.
• This position is expected to be on-site 5 days a week.
• This position is located in Austin, Texas.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
