The Opportunity

As a dedicated Fraud Investigator II, you will conduct internal or external fraud investigations and file regulatory reports according to legal requirements while ensuring adherence to all applicable deadlines. Complete interviews with internal and external parties. Perform mitigation and remediation activities while utilizing multiple applications and platforms in support of fraud operation activities to alleviate any potential negative impact to members and/or the organization.

This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

• Conducts less complex fraud investigations of suspected or known criminal activity, which includes cases of less severity, cases with less member accounts and transactions, or limited to one fraud type.   
• Reviews monetary and non-monetary fraud transactions, conducts interviews, and analyzes transaction data to detect fraudulent or unusual patterns and trends in support of the investigative process.
• Performs thorough analysis of evidence; assesses veracity of information compiled, to include documentary materials and results of interviews, to develop investigative conclusions.
• Utilizes knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, applicable laws and regulations, company policies and best practices in the investigative field to organize investigative results,
• Prepares cases for criminal prosecution, obtains and preserves evidence, and presents evidence to appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
• May provide testimony to the grand jury and trial courts and file regulatory reports as necessary.
• Identifies and partners with tenured Investigators to resolve issues; identifies appropriate issues for escalation such as fraudulent trends, vulnerabilities causing increased fraudulent activity and/or larger than normal losses.
• Serves as a liaison with law enforcement agencies and other institutions to ensure USAA is informed of all relevant potential risks.
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

• Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree (Total of 6 years of experience needed without a completed degree).
• 2 years of experience in financial services investment, or financial crimes.
• Basic understanding of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and other applicable laws and regulations.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical experience.

What sets you apart:

• 2 years of experience as a fraud investigator, handling matters involving common bank fraud typologies and TTPs (e.g., ATO, social engineering, phishing, ID theft, etc.) and use of fraud detection and analysis tools. 
• 2 years of experience handling fraud investigations involving various banking products and services (e.g., checking/savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, etc.), including experience and/or understanding of how fraud actors target and exploit different types of bank transactions.
• Ability to analyze large datasets to identify patterns and risk indicators.
• Working knowledge of Snowflake, SQL, SAS, and other RDBMS tools for the purposes of querying and analyzing data.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590 - $121,530.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
