CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Management Coordinator 1 supports the implementation of basic emergency preparedness activities and the development and maintenance of policies, plans and procedures for the emergency management program. The Emergency Management Coordinator 1 supports how the organization mitigates against, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from all-hazards. Moreover, the Emergency Management Coordinator 1 maintains emergency management standards and technology that ensure compliance with all regulatory, and accreditation authorities.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Supports the creation, maintenance, and implementation of emergency response, continuity, and other plans that define how the organization mitigates against, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from all-hazards.
2. Supports the organization’s response to major emergencies and disasters.
3. Coordinates and tracks emergency management training programs.
4. Provides suggestions for updates to emergency management training programs and completes updates to training programs based on compliance standards.
5. Assists with the development and coordination of emergency training exercises to ensure preparedness in the organization’s response to all-hazards.
6. Supports the maintenance of emergency management technology.
7. Acts as liaison to local fire and police personnel and other external parties likely to have either a response or support role following a disaster.
8. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions (specific to Coral Gables campus)
As assigned by the Manager of Emergency Preparedness, the Emergency Management Specialist will be responsible for the following department specific functions:
Emergency Operations: Supports coordination and response to real world incidents, emergencies, disasters, and pre-planned events. Manages department logistics and assists during activation of the Unified Operations Center.
Emergency Planning: Assists with development, management, and updates to emergency management plans, policies, procedures, and associated documents. Develops and implements processes, tools, systems, and metrics to assess the success of existing plans. Guides unit level response and continuity plan development. Periodically reviews and updates the University Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP).
Emergency Management Technology: Assists with operational readiness, future development, and integration of the University's Emergency Notification Network (ENN). Manages the operational readiness of the Unified Operations Center (UOC), department fleet, and critical disaster supplies inventory. Researches and recommends new services and technologies to improve the level of preparedness for the University. Assists with integration of access control technologies with emergency management technologies and the Emergency Notification Network.
Emergency Management Training: Supports emergency management training programs as well as emergency management committee meetings. Ensures individuals are trained and prepared to fill critical roles outlined in the University’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and maintains the appropriate records for all trained individuals.
Emergency Management Exercise Program: Works with OEM staff to support UM emergency management exercise program, to include budgeting, planning, and coordination with external agencies. Develops after action reports and improvement plans following all exercises and actual emergencies.
Emergency Management Student Assistants: Assists Emergency Preparedness Manager with student assistant program and ensures student assistants are provided with educational opportunities to expand their involvement and support the mission and objectives of the department. Responsible for training, motivating, communicating with, guiding, and evaluating student employees.
Access Control: Supports the access control program operations and administrative tasks, including assisting with projects when requested. Manages access control inventory and maintains and coordinates distribution of required Access Control Reports.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Incorporates key elements of University emergency plans into GIS systems.
Additional Duties: Supports administrative and operational functions of the department and other duties as assigned.
