Job Summary

The Senior Associate Director (Sr AD), Career Management is part of the Chicago Booth Career Services team and primarily functions as a coach practitioner and educator for students in the Booth Evening MBA, Weekend MBA, Master in Management, and Master in Finance Programs as well as alumni of Booth’s MBA and Specialized Masters programs. Students enrolling in the Master in Management (MiM) cohort will have less than two years professional work experience, Master in Finance (MiF) students represent a wider range of experience, and Evening and Weekend MBA (EW) students are typically working professionals with an average of five years work experience.

In addition to coaching Evening, Weekend, MiM and MiF students and alumni, the Sr AD will likely play a role in providing coaching support and program delivery for Succeeding in the Workplace. The course will incorporate career fundamentals and soft skills training for students in the MiM and MIF program and may be expanded to include students in other specialized Masters Programs. Note that the volume of support provided to MIM/MiF students will be dependent on the structure of the new Specialty Masters Team so support by program may vary based on staffing model.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development of career management strategy for Booth Evening and Weekend MBA students, specialized masters students and alumni of the specialized masters programs. 
  • Coaches Evening MBA, Weekend MBA, Master in Finance and Master in Management students on appropriate career management and job search skills in one-on-one, small and large group settings, and virtually.
  • Provides career coaching support for a wide variety of career paths and goals, including firms which regularly hire business graduates, such as consulting, major corporates, financial services firms, as well as firms in more specialized sectors, including media / entertainment, clean tech, and venture capital.
  • Conceptualizes, innovates, develops, and facilitates the delivery of career education (knowledge and skill building) including workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers in person and via e-learning/media.
  • Supports curriculum development and builds out content for programs for target populations.
  • Partners across Booth and UChicago to identify resources to round out students’ educational experience, namely technical prep for interviews, analytical skills, and communication skills.
  • Collaborates with Booth departments such as Leadership Development, Student Life, Academic Services, and Admissions to identify opportunities to enhance the EW and SMP student experience.
  • Understands career interests of EW and SMP students and works closely with Operations and Employer Relations staff to facilitate connecting students to career opportunities.
  • Solicits and analyzes student and alumni feedback and evaluations and helps strategize with Booth staff and student leaders to determine program and resource offerings and innovations.
  • Leads select strategic initiatives important in ensuring career support continues to align with evolving student needs and leverages available technologies.
  • Manages or leads various special projects/programs that provide career-related support for special constituencies. These audiences could include the general student or alumni population, subsets of students or alumni based on industry, geography, function, years of work experience, or other factors.   
  • Conducts complex job search and career management related large lectures, hands-on workshops, special events, training programs, and one-on-one career coaching sessions. Acts as a lead resource for and directs students to other career resources as needed.
  • Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches. Assesses student feedback and evaluations and collaborates with other career services staff members, student organizations, or other staff to determine program offerings and innovations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Master’s degree in business, counseling, or related field.

Experience:

  • At least seven years of experience in business or higher education.
  • Background in undergraduate career management, recruiting, or student services fields.
  • Skilled with, knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in business careers.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience using on-line resources, spreadsheets, digital content management (website) and learning management (LMS) platforms and presentation software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Work in-person in the office with students 3 days/week.  During peak times and depending on student demand, work additional in-person day.  This is not a virtual role.
  • Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends.
