Summary of Job Duties:

The Technical Director has the daily responsibility for the technical operations of the theater and conference center, including lighting, sound, event setup, and coordinating necessary part-time and volunteer staff. The Technical Director reports to the Director.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Ā· Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the center, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage, convention, and event facilities.
Ā· Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
Ā· Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates equipment for performing arts, music, conferences, special events, and other productions and projects; assists guests with technical matters.
Ā· Advises production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
Ā· Supervises and assists with event setup.
Ā· Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows.
Ā· Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.
Ā· Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; makes recommendations for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints.
Ā· Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
Ā· Attends technical rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the show.
Ā· Makes recommendations to leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
Ā· Ensure that technical staff receive appropriate training and development
Ā· Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all Health & Safety and licensing regulations, including liaison with relevant authorities; also to participate in the theatre’s Health & Safety committee, representing production aspects and areas

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent, is preferred. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible event operation experience with demonstrated success is preferred.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Human Resource Director and the Chancellor.

Preferred Technical skills:

Audio Systems, Advanced knowledge of audio engineering, with specific expertise on the Yamaha CL5 console.

Lighting Systems: Advanced knowledge of lighting design and operation, with specific expertise on Hedgehog 4 consoles.

Ā· Analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances.

Ā· Plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for each event or performance.

Ā· Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ā· Design and construct sets.

Ā· Design lighting and sound systems appropriate to each event.

Ā· Oversee stage crews and volunteers.

Ā· Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.

Ā· Maintain inventory of necessary supplies.

Ā· Assist in budget preparation.

Ā· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers, and others.

Ā· Maintain irregular and extended working hours.

Ā· Able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.


Salary Information:

Base $35,000.00. Commensurate with education and experience.
