Under the direction of the SVP of External Affairs & Public Policy and The NY Foundling (NYF) President/CEO,the External Affairs & Public Policy Director will align external advocacy efforts for the New York statewide BUMP Campaign (Bring Up Minimum Pay) with executive priorities and long-term strategic goals, lead the development and execution of policy agendas. This position requires a systems thinker and persuasive communicator who knows how to translate ideas into action, understands both the practical challenges and strategic possibilities facing the nonprofit sector as well as an understanding of federal, city, and state policy dynamics. It is also essential to possess a a commitment to equity, and a demonstrated ability to lead through influence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement targeted policy recommendations and strategies to elevate the statewide BUMP campaign's visibility and engagement in public policy decision-making processes along with the SVP of External Affairs & Public Policy and NYF President & CEO.
  • Drive strategic advocacy and policy outcomes for the statewide BUMP Campaign by tracking, analyzing, and synthesizing legislative budgets and policy updates on workforce, human services sector and other related areas across city, state, and federal levels.
  • Track BUMP Campaign milestones, sector data, and field conditions to synthesize stakeholder input and drive measurable impact, while reporting progress to leadership, partners, and stakeholders and adapting plans based on real-time developments.
  • Manage regional stakeholders, workforce validators and partners to ensure local implementation aligns with BUMP Campaign goals.
  • Support content development for policy-related communications with BUMP Campaign leads, consultants, Foundling staff, development, marketing and communications and executive leadership.
  • Develop and disseminate materials that aid in educating and mobilizing BUMP Campaign leads, front line workers, representatives from human services organizations, foundations and others on key budget, legislative and policy issues (i.e. petition collection, letter writing, social media campaigns, etc.)
  • Represent the BUMP Campaign in media appearances, public forums, coalitions, and meetings with key stakeholders, including city and state officials, philanthropic leaders, and partner institutions.
  • Advance BUMP Campaign policy priorities by facilitating and leading external working groups on key issues relevant to the human services workforce.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required but Master's Degree preferred (policy-related degree) and/or at least three years experience in policy, research, advocacy or government.
  • Experience leading policy strategy and public campaigns and/or coalitions within a nonprofit, advocacy, or political setting.
  • Knowledge of NY State's nonprofit and public policy ecosystem, with the ability to identify trends, gaps, and points of leverage.
  • Experience building and scaling cross-functional teams and initiatives.
  • Proven ability to develop, strengthen and maintain strong relationships with government agencies and elected officials at all levels of government.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and public communication skills.
  • Ability to respond rapidly to changing priorities while maintaining focus on strategic goals.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution

Salary Range:

$85,000 - $100,000/year
