Director, Proposal Management and Writing for a 125+ employee (and growing) remote education non-profit providing professional learning to K-12 educators nationally


Type of Vacancy: Salaried, full-time

Report to: Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships

Supervises: None

Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $106,000 - $160,335 annually. This range represents the full earning potential for the role, including opportunities for salary growth over time based on performance, tenure, and organizational budget. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $106,000 - $139,825. Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint of the full salary range ($139,825) to allow for continued growth in the role over time. There are two types of experience being considered for this role: Experience that is directly relevant to the role and Total Working Experience, in all fields. This includes: internships, part-time work, and consulting work. In collaboration with the hiring manager, the People and Culture team calculates experience based on the candidate’s most current resume. When calculating the offer, consideration is given to candidates who possess additional qualifications (i.e., desired qualifications).

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Proposal Management and Writing leads and manages Teaching Lab’s full proposal development lifecycle. This role sets and implements the strategy, vision, and standards for producing high-quality, competitive proposals that advance Teaching Lab’s mission and growth goals. The Director oversees the review and analysis of complex RFPs (Request for Proposals), designs proposal strategies, manages timelines and deliverables, coordinates cross-functional teams, and ensures final submissions are compelling, compliant, and aligned with organizational priorities. The Director also builds and refines systems, templates, and content libraries to support the consistent and efficient delivery of high-quality proposals.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary responsibilities for the Director, Proposal Management and Writing include:

  • Proposal Strategy and Leadership
  • Lead the full lifecycle of proposal development for RFI (Request for Information), RFQ (Request for Quote), and RFP submissions, from initial qualification from the SD, Strategic Partnerships, to final submission.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret RFPs to identify requirements, evaluation criteria, compliance risks, and win opportunities.
  • Develop and implement proposal strategies, win themes, and key messaging aligned with Teaching Lab’s mission and competitive strengths.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for proposal clarification, ensuring gaps or ambiguities are addressed with prospective partners.
  • Evaluate attachments, work samples, and evidence to ensure they demonstrate Teaching Lab’s capacity and directly address proposal requirements.

  • Project Management and Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Develop comprehensive proposal project plans and timelines to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality submissions.
  • Lead proposal kick-off meetings for complex or high-stakes submissions as needed, and facilitate regular check-ins, review sessions, and governance sign-offs to ensure timely progress.
  • Delegate tasks and guide internal contributors and subject matter experts through writing, editing, compliance, and approvals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and other senior leaders to align proposals with organizational priorities and relationship strategies.
  • Coordinate collection and assembly of all required administrative and compliance forms (references, tax forms, certifications, etc.).

  • Quality Assurance and Final Production
  • Oversee editing, proofreading, and final packaging of all proposals to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with Teaching Lab’s voice, tone, and style.
  • Ensure proposals are positioned from the partner’s perspective and tailored to diverse stakeholders such as schools, districts, state agencies, and peer organizations.
  • Ensure all proposals meet the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness to achieve maximum evaluation scores.

  • Infrastructure and Continuous Improvement
  • Design, manage, and continuously update a robust content library and proposal templates in line with Teaching Lab’s branding and messaging.
  • Develop and implement systems, tools, and best practices to strengthen proposal quality, efficiency, and team collaboration.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and quality control for proposal contributors to strengthen organizational proposal capacity.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Strategic Growth & Marketing department leadership and/or Executive Team.


STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY SUCCESS INDICATORS (KSI)
  • The Director, Proposal Management and Writing is accountable for achieving goals set in collaboration with their manager, aligned with annual goals, and especially, Key Success Indicators (KSI). Below are examples of measured outcomes for Key Success Indicators (KSI). Additional information will be shared with candidates during the recruitment and selection process.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, nonprofit management, education leadership, education policy, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with K-12 education procurement processes, including compliance, evaluation criteria, and contracting requirements.
  • At least five (5) years of experience leading RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs processes.
  • Proven track record of leading successful responses to RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs, including analyzing solicitations, developing win strategies, and producing fully compliant, competitive submissions.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling narratives that align with the needs and priorities of diverse education stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with advanced project management skills to balance multiple complex submissions, competing deadlines, and diverse content requirements.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills to work effectively with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and external partners.
  • Flexible, resourceful, and adaptable, with a positive, solutions-oriented approach.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in business administration, nonprofit management, education leadership, education policy, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with federal or state education funding, including understanding of funding mechanisms and compliance requirements.

$106,000 - $139,825 a year
The full salary range for this position is $106,000 - $160,335 annually. I understand that if I am offered and accept an offer of employment, I will be required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9), and provide supporting documents within three days of my hire date.  Non-compliance will result in termination of employment.  Teaching Lab participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. If E-Verify cannot confirm that you are authorized to work, Teaching Lab is required to give you written instructions and an opportunity to contact the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or Social Security Administration (SSA) so you can begin to resolve the issue before any action is taken against you, including terminating your employment.  Teaching Lab can only use E-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9.  EVerify and Right to Work posters.

Teaching Lab has a payroll direct deposit program.  I understand that if I am employed, I am not required to enroll in Teaching Lab’s payroll direct deposit program, and I would be paid via a paper check.
