A Glimpse of the Job
The Risk Manager, under the direction of the Assistant VP for Risk, Ethics and Compliance, plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing Texas A&M University’s risk management culture. This position leads the university's enterprise risk management framework, guides the property and casualty insurance program, and supervises staff. As a trusted advisor, the position translates complex risk data into actionable recommendations and promotes risk-informed decisions and actions.
Essential Duties/Tasks:
Risk Management and Insurance Services Leadership
Lead the university's comprehensive risk management and insurance services, including the operationalization and optimization of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and oversight of the property and casualty insurance portfolio
Serve as a trusted advisor to university departments on risk-informed decision-making for their strategic initiatives, operations, projects, and activities
Collaborate with Contract Administration in the review of third-party contracts for appropriate insurance requirements and other risk management strategies
Facilitate the assessment of high-risk international travel requests and make final approval recommendations to university leadership
Translate complex risk data into actionable recommendations and provide data-driven insights to key stakeholders and senior leadership
Promote a culture of risk awareness across the university by developing and delivering training, tools, and resources
Lead cross-functional teams to implement risk mitigation strategies
Serve as a key member on university committees and working groups
Supervision
Supervise, mentor, and develop assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating performance
Compliance and Regulatory Activities
Monitor compliance with federal, state, university, and Texas A&M System standards, including, but not limited to, laws, codes, rules, and directives, as well as compliance with internal and external policies and procedures
Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and collaborate in the development of plans to mitigate non-compliance
Assist in the investigation of potential violations of policies, procedures, or other regulatory standards
Serve as a liaison between Texas A&M University System Audit and university departments throughout assigned audits
Interpret departmental policies, rules, and regulations
Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $90,000-$97,000

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of related experience in risk and compliance, administration, program management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of risk management techniques, insurance principles, and claims management.
Progressive professional work experience in higher education risk management.
Demonstrated leadership of enterprise risk management (ERM) initiatives.
Risk management certification or designation, such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), RIMS – Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP), or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to understand and interpret insurance contracts and terms.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and analytical skills.
Other Requirements and Factors
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
This position is security sensitive.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
This position allows alternate work location per TAMU guidelines.
