Job Description

Purpose:

The Program Specialist will report to the Associate Director of the Texas A&M Engineering Academies and support recruitment efforts primarily for the Engineering Academies.

Responsibilities:

  • Increase visibility and promote the Engineering Academy by:
    • Establishing and sustaining working relationships with high school educators and counselors.    
    • Collaborating with community and educational organizations.  
    • Planning and executing information sessions for prospective students and families.  
    • Representing the Academy program at our partner community college recruitment events.
  • Provide guidance on the Engineering Academy admission process and address general prospective student and family questions.
  • Provide input to Engineering Academy leadership evaluating the Academy application process and the effectiveness of recruitment strategies.
  • Provide academic advice to current students enrolled in the Engineering Academies.
  • Advise current students with academic, probationary, financial concerns and related personal concerns.
  • This position requires direct engagement with minors and youth during program activities. The employee is expected to fully adhere to all university policies and state regulations pertaining to the safety and protection of minors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Extensive travel and some evening and weekend work required.

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

What is helpful:

  • Related higher education experience.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Texas class “C” Drivers License

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to relate well with a diverse population.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgement.
  • Ability to use word processing programs and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • This position will be headquartered in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX.

About Workforce Development

The Workforce Development Division of Texas A&M Engineering will be the premier provider of programs, conferences, professional development, and educational opportunities to prepare experts, employees and advocates for STEM-related fields. The Workforce Development Division has six programs: Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach, ReCENT, Engineering Academies, TEES EDGE Professional Education, Regional Divisions, Conference and Events Planning Services. Through these programs, the division creates and coordinates opportunities worldwide to hone expertise among engineering professionals and train or retrain those interested in emerging engineering fields while concurrently engaging with PK-collegiate educators and students to encourage future engineers.
