- Deep understanding of nondestructive evaluation methods and inspection practices
- Proven people leadership and team-building in a high-change environment
- Process improvement and lean manufacturing experience (PPS, 8D, Kaizen, 5S)
- Ability to define, track, and drive operational metrics
- Budgeting and resource planning for capex and opex
- Familiarity with industry standards (NASA 5009, AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM) and inspection software (e.g., UTEX)
- Strong communication, coaching, and decision-making skills
- Comfort working on the factory floor and in high-volume/complex production settings
Responsibilities
- Lead and support NDE supervisors, specialists, and technicians across multiple resource centers on the production floor
- Ensure inspections are performed timely and efficiently; prevent inspection from blocking hardware flow unless defects require corrective action
- Identify and implement process improvements to make NDE operations leaner and more effective; develop metrics and goals for each resource center
- Assess employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and maintain training and career development plans
- Coordinate with NDE Engineering, Production, Build Reliability, and Design Engineering to meet company objectives
- Manage capital and operational expenditures for the NDE Operations team
- Promote a positive, safe, and healthy work environment and embody SpaceX culture and values
- Adapt to changing schedules, requirements, and company priorities; support extended hours and remote-site travel as needed
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nondestructive evaluation, manufacturing, or an engineering discipline
- NDE Level II certification in one or more methods preferred (ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance)
