Skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex avionics wiring schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with cable harness design tools and harness routing/assembly techniques.
- Hands-on hardware installation experience on aircraft, including tooling, crimping, and soldering.
- Familiarity with airworthiness and environmental standards (DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461).
- Familiarity with DoD systems integration and acquisition processes and customer interfacing.
- Experience with serial communications protocols (ARINC-429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN).
- Experience developing and executing test plans including EMI/EMC and environmental testing.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Comfort with frequent domestic travel to customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed vehicle system analysis and trade studies to define integration requirements (power, cooling, space, weight).
- Contribute to system architecture and cable harness design, including component selection, routing, and installation procedures.
- Interpret avionics wiring schematics and mechanical drawings to plan and execute hardware installations on aircraft and weapon systems.
- Execute hardware installations: rack mounting, cable routing, termination, crimping, soldering, and securing components per standards.
- Develop, execute, and document test plans (functional, environmental, EMI/EMC) and validate integrated hardware/software.
- Troubleshoot complex system anomalies, isolate root causes, and implement corrective actions for hardware and wiring issues.
- Draft and maintain technical documentation: integration plans, technical reports, hazard analyses, and FMECA.
- Ensure compliance with government certification processes and airworthiness standards (FAA, MIL standards).
- Coordinate with DoD systems engineers, technicians, and maintainers and support customer site integrations.
- Travel to customer sites within the U.S. (40–75%) to support installations, testing, and operational handoffs.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
- Relevant aerospace/defense technical coursework or certifications preferred.
