Serco is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to support the development and fabrication of mechanical components and systems for defense-related applications. This position is based in Ludlow, MA, and involves hands-on engineering design, manufacturing support, and product improvement activities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to interpret technical drawings and possess a deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure precision and manufacturability in all mechanical designs.
In this role, you will:
Support the design and development of mechanical systems and hardware.
Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design documents to ensure clarity and compliance.
Apply GD&T standards in the creation and review of technical drawings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, manufacturing personnel, and quality assurance.
Assist in selecting materials and manufacturing methods for prototype and production builds.
Provide engineering support during prototype and low-rate production phases.
Participate in design reviews, test events, and system integration efforts.
Create and maintain documentation including design packages, bills of materials, and test reports.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design and development (defense or related industry preferred)
Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
In-depth understanding of GD&T and its application in design and manufacturing
Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo)
Familiarity with material properties, machining processes, and design for manufacturability
Excellent communication and documentation skills
