Senior Facilities Engineer

Rocket Lab is a vertically integrated space company building rockets, spacecraft, and components to enable critical space missions. The Senior Facilities Engineer will design, implement, and optimize facility infrastructure at the Neutron manufacturing site to support advanced aerospace manufacturing processes, ensuring alignment between facilities systems and production requirements for a low-flow, high-mix environment.

Skills

  • Facilities engineering for manufacturing operations
  • Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, and industrial utilities
  • Experience with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks) for layout and equipment integration
  • Capital project planning and execution
  • Lean Manufacturing and process improvement methodologies
  • Familiarity with composites manufacturing and AFP/composite lamination processes
  • Experience with CNC machining and large structural assembly support
  • Integration of automation with MRP and quality systems
  • Knowledge of heavy-lift operations and large-scale testing support

Responsibilities

  • Develop factory layouts, equipment selection criteria, and commissioning plans to meet production needs.
  • Translate manufacturing and process requirements into facilities specifications (electrical loads, HVAC, air, nitrogen, vacuum, etc.).
  • Plan, justify, and execute capital projects for facility upgrades, equipment installs, and layout changes.
  • Prepare business cases and oversee implementation of capital investments.
  • Apply Lean principles to facilities design and optimize space, manpower, and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with automation, manufacturing, industrial engineering, and production teams to ensure seamless integration with MRP and quality systems.
  • Support Value Stream Mapping, Method of Manufacture planning, and cell design activities.
  • Commission and validate facility systems to support composite layup, AFP, CNC machining, heavy lifting, and large-structure assembly.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace) required
  • Advanced engineering degree preferred
