You’re not alone. So many big companies are pulling this “voluntary resignation” nonsense to dodge severance. It’s messed up. people deserve better
can confirm morale is in the toilet. whole team’s checked out and no one even pretends to care anymore
Amazon: “Invent and simplify” Also Amazon: “Move 3,000 miles and sit in a cube or else”
Yup. This is just layoffs without the headlines. Force people out so u don’t gotta pay severance
I work at Amazon, and I’m not exaggerating when I say the return-to-office madness has spiraled completely out of control. Not only are they moving toward 5 full days in-office, but they’re literally forcing people to relocate across the country to keep their jobs. And if you push back? Miss a few required in-office days? They mark you as “voluntarily resigned” and shut off your access. Like… what??
People are being pushed out quietly, without severance, just because they can’t uproot their lives for a job they already proved they could do remotely. We’ve been hitting goals for years remotely. But now suddenly it’s all about "collaboration" and "being inventive" in a conference room you didn’t ask for.
Morale? Nonexistent. Last year we had a walkout over layoffs and RTO, and nothing changed. Leadership acts like we’re being difficult for not wanting to pay Bay Area or Seattle rent just to sit in a different Slack channel.
At this point, half the people I know are either looking to leave or just silently checked out. Can you blame them? Feels like Amazon would rather lose top performers than offer basic flexibility. And honestly… they’re succeeding at that.
Anyone else living this?
