POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State is seeking a Hazing Prevention Specialist (Student Wellness Specialist – senior professional and/or Student Wellness Specialist- advanced professional). This new position will serve as a university leader for prevention efforts related to hazing, substance use, and other risk reduction initiatives.
The position will develop the strategic direction and priorities and implement evidence-informed prevention initiatives related to hazing, substance use, and risk reduction for a wide range of student populations, including, but not limited to, registered student organizations, recreation club and intramural sports, fraternities and sororities, athletes, the Blue Band as well as employees and volunteers who have direct ongoing interaction with students. The position will work within prevention models such as the Strategic Prevention Framework from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or the Hazing Prevention Framework from StopHazing.org. As the role develops, the position will engage with leadership to provide additional recommendations and mobilize resources to create a safe and healthy environment for students. The hazing prevention specialist will report to the director of Health Promotion and Wellness.
Specific job duties include:
Develop and implement a comprehensive, culturally sensitive prevention strategy for hazing, substance use, and other risk reduction areas at the university.
Serve as a university leader for prevention efforts related to hazing, substance use, and other risk reduction initiatives.
Train facilitators to lead programs on challenging topics and provide constructive feedback when needed.
Meet regularly with campus and community partners (including fraternity and sorority leaders and registered student organizations) to foster effective community engagement.
Engage in a collaborative strategic planning process and communicate progress updates regularly with stakeholders.
Collaborate with a variety of staff and offices to ensure prevention efforts related to hazing, substance use, and other risk reduction concerns are met.
Serve on relevant committees, including the Hazing Prevention Committee, the Health and Safety Team in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the leadership team for Health Promotion and Wellness
Design and implement an assessment approach to determine the effectiveness of prevention efforts, including identifying expected learning and behavioral outcomes.
Communicate assessment findings to a variety of audiences, including University leadership. Provide information about prevention efforts to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and laws.

Preferred Position Qualifications:
Knowledge of and experience implementing public health prevention models
Familiarity with and knowledge of prevention models, such as the Strategic Prevention Framework from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) or the Hazing Prevention Framework from StopHazing.Org
Experience leading interdisciplinary groups through change processes
Experience facilitating prevention projects, providing technical assistance, conducting problem analyses, using data to identify problems and assess impact, and coaching colleagues in implementing a strategic prevention approach

6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $81,500.00.
