Preference Model's mission is to train ML models against the real world, starting with building training data to automate ML research and engineering. We're already partnering with leading AI labs to push the edge of capability for SOTA models.
Founded by a team with direct experience training frontier models: Jennifer Zhou was #52 at Anthropic, where she built data infrastructure and tokenizers; Ning Cao was #6 at DatologyAI, the data curation startup behind BeyondWeb and Arcee models.
We've raised $16M from a16z and SignalFire, along with pioneer ML researchers like Fei-Fei Li, Ian Goodfellow, and Julian Schrittwieser.
The Role
You'll own everything that makes the company run: talent and agency operations, vendor management, compliance, HR, and project delivery. This isn't a "support the founders" role—it's the operational engine that determines whether we scale successfully.
What you'll do:
Scale our talent network across multiple concurrent projects
Build systems for talent sourcing, onboarding, and performance management
Negotiate with agencies, vendors, and occasionally customers
Tackle whatever's broken—SOC 2 prep, office search, invoicing chaos—all in the same week
What we're looking for:
Attention to detail—the kind of person who plans vacations in spreadsheets
Someone who builds playbooks and systems without being asked
Comfortable negotiating hard while preserving relationships
Comfortable making decisions with 70% of the information
Direct communicator who doesn't sugarcoat problems
Experience as a founder at fast pace startup preferred
