POSITION TITLE: Regional Lead Clinician

LOCATION:  Southeast Region           

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

SCHEDULE: 5 days per week (Schedule varies between 7:45a to 4p or 8:45a to 5p)

Wage: $133,000 per year

Position Description

The Regional Lead Clinician is responsible for the supervision and clinical management of the clinicians in their region.  The Regional Lead Clinician, under the supervision of the Senior Director of Clinical Services, and Chief Medical Officer, works collaboratively with physicians, other clinicians, ancillary staff and leadership throughout the agency. The position provides improved delivery of patient care by strengthening the hiring, training, orientation, and monitoring of licensed and unlicensed staff in the region. Serves as a medical resource for other licensed staff throughout the agency.  This staff person will fully embody a commitment to race equity; evidenced in all interactions with PPMI colleagues and external stakeholders.

·        Warmly greets patients upon arrival at health center/telehealth visits, or when first engaging with a patient.

·        Maintains good working relationship with other management staff and works cooperatively with health center personnel.

·        Delivers, coordinates, and ensures quality care, utilizing professional education and skill in history taking, patient education and follow-up.

·        Obtains a comprehensive relevant health, social, and medical history.  Formulates a diagnosis/differentials based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results and information.  Orders and interprets diagnostic tests as appropriate.

·        Provides patient education to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

·        Prescribes medications and contraceptive devices as needed.

·        Develops and implements treatment plans.

·        Monitors the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.

·        Ensures a lens of health equity when evaluating outcomes and patient experience. 

·        Establishes a plan of care and implements interventions in accordance with care paths, protocols, MS&Gs and current evidence-based guidelines.

·        Consults with other physicians or CMO as needed. Refer patients when care needs are beyond Advanced Practice Clinician scope of practice and knowledge proficiency.

·        Contributes to the educational development of staff, patients, and self to promote a culture of learning.

·        Reviews PPMI Medical Standards and Guidelines and remains up to date with changes in guidelines and policies related to patient care and health center operations. 

·        Monitors and ensures compliance with OSHA, CLIA and state laws, policies and regulations.

·        Advances own professional development through self-directed learning, continuing education, and participation in peer review.

·        Supervises the training of new providers on PPFA/PPMI medical standards and guidelines, and protocols.

·        Demonstrates progressive leadership and effective management strategies.

·        Advocates for autonomy in clinical practice and supports Advanced Practice Clinicians in working to the top of their licensure and training.

·        Helps to resolve any medical-administrative concerns between licensed and non-licensed staff, and communicates in a way that fosters understanding, commitment and results.

·        Participate in recruiting a diverse staff of Advanced Practice Clinicians through interviewing and hiring candidates that support the organizational objectives for equity and diversity.

·        Assist in establishing goals for the region and preparation of center budgets in collaboration with the Patient Services Leadership Team to facilitate effective management, sustained productivity, and financial solvency of medical services.

·        Work in collaboration with the Patient Services leadership team to establish clinical competency standards, staffing guidelines, and training needs to ensure safe clinical practice.

·        Participates in regularly scheduled medical services audits per MS&G requirements. 

·        Performs chart reviews to assess clinical skills requiring proctoring and privilege per MS&Gs of assigned Advanced Practice Clinicians to ensure patient safety, ongoing competence, and remaining compliant with accreditation requirements.

·        Assists in monitoring occurrences and collaborates with the Sr Director of Clinical Services develop individual training plans as needed to facilitate clinical competency.

·        Meets 1:1 with assigned clinicians at minimum quarterly and on an as-needed basis to monitor concerns, feedback, or practice needs to support professional goals and job satisfaction.

·        Monitors patient satisfaction scores and clinician feedback to determine educational needs that will ensure clinical readiness and confidence in providing patient care.

·        Facilitates clinician meetings and ensures reserved time for only licensed individuals to promote a safe space to raise concerns or discuss clinical practice.

·        Works collaboratively with the DPCOS, COO and Senior Director of Clinical Services to problem solve and identify solutions to address issues raised among the health center team to ensure high levels of employee morale and a professional health center atmosphere.

·        Rounds regularly at health centers in their service area ensuring communication and standards are maintained.

·        Supports productivity goals in collaboration with the health center manager and leadership and maintains communication with supervisors about barriers in achieving these goals.

·        Participates in team huddles as available.

·        Maintains ongoing collaboration with the Patient Services Leadership team to plan, coordinate, evaluate services, and to review specific issues.

·        Evaluates clinicians’ clinical job performance in accordance with PPMI policies.

·        Actively participates and engages in leadership meetings to represent the clinical voice on behalf of the clinicians.

·        The time split between administrative and clinical duties is estimated to be approximately 50% administrative and 50% clinical and will vary based on the health center and administrative needs.

·        Develop and update affiliate protocols in accordance with the PPFA MS&Gs.

·        Oversee the training/education/supervision/proctoring and ongoing monitoring of health center staff.

·        Provide ongoing availability of consultation when needed, including supervision of complex cases within the service

·        Grant clinical privileges relevant to the service

·        Participate in RQM activities, including, but not limited to:

o   medical record review and other program audits

o   Peer review

o   Review of required documentation (program complications, outcome/quality, etc.)

Qualifications and Experience

Required

·        Graduation from an accredited NP, CNM or PA program.

·        Current Michigan APRN license or Physician Assistant license or Certified Nurse Midwife license

·        3 years clinical experience in GYN/family planning, including abortion care, STD’s, pregnancy determination and male examinations.

·        The Regional Lead Clinician must be fully competent and comply with the following: Capable of working in a busy environment, often under pressure, without compromising accuracy, attention to detail and customer service.

·        Familiar with health center funding sources, billing systems and medical coding.

·        Demonstrated proficiency with Personal Computers (PCs), Microsoft Word and Excel, and internet applications and EHR

·        Capable of seeing three to four patients per hour with accuracy within three months of hire.

·        Maintain consistent compliance on chart audits.

·        Maintain accuracy in documentation in patient’s medical record.

·        Maintain compliance with Planned Parenthood of Michigan medical protocols.

·        Ability to travel to designated PPMI health centers.

·        Able to work nights and weekends as needed

·        Sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences among staff and patients.

·        Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives in collaboration with other functional areas

·        Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission, vision and values

 

Preferred

·        Preferred skills include an understanding of abortion services and workflow, and ultrasound. Commitment to learn and perform the above skills will be considered in lieu of experience.

·        Previous management experience is strongly preferred.
