The Senior Associate Director, Wharton Centers Finance plays a pivotal role in the financial management of Wharton's 20+ research centers and initiatives, serving as a strategic partner to multiple research centers and initiatives with intricate funding structures.
Key responsibilities include:
Financial strategy and planning: Provide senior leaders with data-driven insights and actionable recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Budget management and oversight: Lead annual budget development in collaboration with center directors and administrative staff. Monitor actual results against budgets, identify variances, and propose adjustments to keep programs on track.
Complex funding oversight: Manage diverse funding sources, including endowments, grants, gifts, and program revenue. Ensure compliance with University, donor, and sponsor requirements, while optimizing the use of resources to support center priorities.
Stakeholder collaboration: Partner closely with faculty directors, center staff, and senior administrators to align financial practices with academic and programmatic goals. Provide guidance to non-financial stakeholders to help them navigate financial processes with clarity and confidence.
External engagement: Serve as a liaison to donors, foundations, and corporate partners on financial matters, ensuring transparency, accountability, and stewardship of resources.
Operational excellence: Drive process improvements in financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance. Develop streamlined tools and best practices to enhance efficiency across multiple centers with unique needs.
Team support and mentorship: Provide leadership and direction to junior finance staff and administrative coordinators within the centers, fostering professional development and building financial acumen across the organization.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree is required (preferred major: Accounting or finance) and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong analytical skills with financial analysis and business operations essential.
Thorough knowledge of established accounting standards and practices, financial planning, and management is required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Advanced skills in Excel.
Strong working knowledge of database technology.
Experience managing, leading, and motivating a diverse group of professionals strongly preferred.
