Job Summary

Provide overall planning and preparation for the University of Chicago’s, Booth School of Business budget summary data and schedules required by the University as a Local Business Center. Booth has a $500M budget across 40 departments with operations in 3 countries. Responsibilities include strategically managing cash flow; optimizing use of available cash; cash depositing, preparing and reporting financial reporting and forecasting, gift processing and reporting, grant processing, and general accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall planning and preparation for Booth, including all budget summary data and schedules required by the University. This includes developing a budgetary strategic plan, budget submission, and monthly forecasting.
  • Manages financial analysts and accountants for various processing and reporting.
  • Works closely with accounting and procurement functions within Booth Finance to improve process and reporting quality.
  • Acts as lead for MBA programs, research academic centers, and administrative departments. This includes providing all planning, processing, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Manages departmental endowments / gifts usage and reporting, including endowment and gift accounts.
  • Verifies/certifies financial results market value of endowment accounts that is over $1.4 billion.
  • Works with University Financial Services to guide Booth on US and international tax issues and unrelated business income tax.
  • Manages and oversees Booth gift processing, fundraising reporting, and stewardship reports.
  • Manages MBA scholarship database, budget, and reporting.
  • Facilitates with HR on faculty and staff compensation/headcount and budgeting/reporting.
  • Reengineers accounting policies and adapts them for institutional mandates in an evolving/iterative financial accounting system (Oracle), showcasing advanced strategic planning and policy development skills.
  • Oversees new Oracle roles/procedures/policy within Booth Accounting that facilitates departmental financial administrators with customized financial and accounting consulting.
  • Manages cash management operations at Booth which includes Booth’s own separate bank account.
  • Oversees faculty research management processes that includes both discretionary and sponsored awards and collaboration with University Research Administration.
  • Participates in high level Booth committees.
  • Oversees functional business plans and contributes to the development of financial goals, strategies, plans, and policies for the unit.
  • Establishes budgets for all areas within scope of responsibility. May direct quarterly and year-end reporting for the operating budget.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 10+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • At least ten years of accounting and financial reporting experience.

  • CPA.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
