We are currently seeking to fill a Case Aide/Temp Lodging Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) to join our Child Welfare team in the Gresham office. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 9AM-6PM Pacific Time. In this role, an optional hybrid work schedule may be approved once all training requirements have been successfully completed.

Summary of Duties

As an employee working within the Child Welfare Program, you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon’s most vulnerable children and families.

As a Case Aide/Temp Lodging Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate staff schedules and supervision for temporary lodging, ensuring coverage, smooth shift transitions, and quality care for children.

  • Present on temporary lodging protocols and processes, clearly communicating expectations and supporting consistent implementation.

  • Maintain organized systems for data entry and document tracking, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with agency standards.

  • Provide efficient and reliable office support to caseworkers, including managing time-sensitive documentation, scheduling appointments, and anticipating team needs.

  • Provide thoughtful and responsive internal customer service, maintaining professionalism and a collaborative attitude—even in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.

  • Monitor family visitation agreements; clearly explain procedures, document interactions, and ensure child safety during supervised visits and transport.

  • Support risk and safety assessments by ensuring timely completion of health screenings, family evaluations, and contributing to effective case planning.

  • Identify and coordinate with relatives for potential placements, including initiating and tracking background checks and follow-ups.

  • Assist children through assessments for abuse or neglect and help facilitate well-organized, trauma-informed transitions into temporary placements.

  • Participate in case-related meetings and staffing sessions, providing input on logistics, documentation status, and overall case coordination.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position

  • One year experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs; OR

  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation, or Juvenile Corrections; OR

  • 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training; OR

  • An Associate's degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services and six months of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).

  • Previous child welfare experience that includes successfully engaging clients (parents & children) and building rapport with families & community partners.

  • Experience providing various levels of supervision and support for children & families.

  • Demonstrated professional documentation skills, with attention to grammar and the ability to proofread your own work effectively.

  • Experienced in task organization, prioritization, and time management to consistently meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word or various database software programs.

  • Demonstrated proficient verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write in plain language and communicate clearly. 

  • Experienced in collaborating with team members and leadership to provide seamless support for children and families, fostering clear communication and proactively addressing challenges to ensure efficient operations and high-quality care.

Working Conditions

  • Your work will be conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites. 

  • Employee will work a professional work week, Monday through Friday, 9AM-6PM Pacific Time; hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs.  Occasional, compensated overtime may be required, including evening and weekend work. 

  • An optional hybrid work arrangement (combination of remote and in-office work) may be approved once all training is complete, and equipment requirements are met. Staff must remain available to report to the office as needed based on business demands.

  • Work hours may vary based on service needs, and occasional, compensated overtime, including evening and weekend shifts, may be required. 

  • Occasional travel is required. 

  • Some travel may be in hazardous weather conditions. 

  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions. 

  • You may encounter stressful situations that will require quick decision-making skills. 

  • Activities include traversing stairs, moving on uneven terrain, and helping children (weighing up to 50 pounds) in and out of car seats.

  • Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
