Responsibilities
- Lead and coach a distributed team of engineers across the western hemisphere while collaborating with a co-manager in India
- Introduce and improve Extreme Programming (XP) practices to increase team capability and quality
- Build rapport with stakeholders, product, UX, and management peers to ensure alignment
- Hire and onboard contractors and full-time engineers as needed
- Work with product managers to collect estimates, track mission indicators, and make forecasts
- Develop plans with the VP of Engineering to improve team capability and capacity
- Remove organizational bottlenecks and enable the team to make independent, high-quality decisions
- Provide coaching, mentoring, mediation, and career development support to team members
- Participate in budgeting, reporting, and other governance requirements
- Maintain a working understanding of the team’s code, architecture, and development environment
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Formal training or coursework in management, leadership, or Agile practices is a plus
